Lost artworks that have been stolen based on the Arts Loss Register that has been discovered and explored. retrieving art work can be quite expensive. Some of the art negotiations and the parties involved with the art negotiations could possibly end up ultimately in prison. The first people that was involved are the Bakwins, their from Massachusetts who has problems at there residents with thieves that has stolen multiple pieces of art from there residence in 1978. “The Bakwins had tried many avenues to attempt to find the artworks, including police, the FBI, private detectives, and alerting the International Foundation for Art Research (IFAL).”(O’Hare1) which turns out that the ALR has already been looking for their piece of Art before the missing alert even came in to the ALR’s hands. In this they have discovered that there was a group of unknown that has sought the insurance for one of the paintings called (Cezanne’s Bouilloire et Fruits).Cezanne’s Bouilloire et Fruits). “ The Fighting Temeraire” by JMW Turner
By. Paul Cezanne
When the ALR was notified they were quick to get into action. The Bakwins and their lawyers were on their quest to require the missing artworks. Even the original negotiation with the holder of the artwork, was proven that it had connections with the Russian institution.“Over the next few months, the ALR team became experts on Russian organised crime.”(Ibid2) All the Bakwins painting that were stolen were fully returned to them. Regardless of how long it took to retrieve these items.
Another artwork that was allegedly a famous piece of work was found in a garage or a attic. By following the art dealer named Frank Faryab, he was tipped off to acquire this specific painting. which was supposed to be a piece from J.M.W Turner. From shorthand there are many roads you have to go through to acquire these piece of work. From being finger printed, talking with multiple people and doing lots of research to looking into where it was previously bought. But once again the ALR had been alerted about the piece, which looked to be in faryab’s hands which he is known and has been convicted of stolen goods before.
Both of these piece have the same line in common where the pieces have been stolen, and sold by dealers that have gotten their hands on these pieces. Have been found by the ALR and have been properly reported and taken back to their original owners. But the Art world has become very keen on catching these art piece when they go missing as most are from the artist themself or the descendent of the artist. But it is quite mind boggling when the pieces can be smuggled and sold just like that to where a special art finding institute like the ALR has to get involved. But known the less these piece are safe once again with their rightful owners. Both of these piece are fantastic to look and and there painting skill are quite a relaxing feel to them.
Question: Why would people want to steal wonderful piece. And why should we need special institutions to track down the Art piece.
